The Rythu Bandhu scheme, a first of its kind initiative providing investment support to farmers to be launched on Thursday, is expected to provide the much needed breather to the marginal and small farmers who constitute a major chunk of land owners in the State.
District Collector Jitesh V Patil on Wednesday called upon farmers to participate in large numbers in the ‘Rythu Mela’ being organised to create awareness on modern agricultural practices, farm management skills and new technologies. In a statement, the Collector said the Agriculture Department is organising the Rythu Mela on January 9 at the Agricultural College in Ashwaraopeta, with the objective of promoting agricultural development in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. He said experts would educate farmers on modern agricultural machinery, improved cultivation practices for various crops, natural farming methods and scientific approaches to mulching cultivation. The event would provide farmers with comprehensive information at a single platform. Stressing the need for farmers to adapt to changing times, the Collector said adoption of modern technology would help reduce input costs and achieve higher yields. He appealed to farmers of the district to make use of the opportunity and participate in large numbers in the Rythu Mela. He also urged representatives of the print and electronic media to attend the programme and contribute to its success.
Kothagudem: District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) secretary G Bhanumathi inaugurated an Agricultural Legal Aid Clinic at Rythu Vedika at Lothvagu village of Laxmidevipalli mandal in the district on Friday. Speaking on the occasion she said the Agri Legal Aid Clinic was set up at the directions of Telangana State Legal Service Authority to provide free agricultural advice and legal aid to the farmers in the villages.
KHAMMAM: The government is taking steps to make the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district a hub for palm oil cultivation. The horticulture department, in collaboration with the TS Co-Operative Oilseeds Growers Federation Ltd (TS-OILFED), aims to expand palm oil plantations in the district by 20,000 acres this year. There are two operational oil palm crushing units in the district, one in Aswaraopet and Dammapeta mandals, respectively. Sources said that two more units will be set up at Kallurigudem village in Vemsoor mandal and Konijerla mandal. The government has been encouraging farmers to shift from crops like chilli and cotton to palm oil cultivation as the land is favourable for cultivating palm oil in the district. District Horticulture Officer J Mariyanna said that with the state government providing subsidies, more farmers are showing interest to cultivate palm oil. He added that farmers can generate additional income by cultivating intercrops in oil palm plantations. P Raju, a farmer from Bandirevu village in Dummugudem mandal, said that he had successfully cultivated palm oil on 40 acres. He noted that compared to other crops, oil palm ensures a stable income.
In the wake of the global impact of COVID-19, particularly in the Telugu states, there has been a surge in demand for consuming organically grown crops. Since then people are seen growing fruits and vegetables at home and on rooftops. This notable trend is the rise in backyard gardeners lately. Additionally, people are seen growing crops on sugarcane plantations. Many have shown that it’s possible to grow different crops alongside sugarcane at home.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bhadradri Kothagudem Senior Scientist & Head, Dr. T. Bharath visited the successful cultivation of quality paddy seed variety Siddi (WGL-44) at Surampalem Village, Mulakalapally Mandal, Bhadradri Kothagudem District on 23.04.2026. This initiative was taken up under the flagship programme “Quality Seed in Every Village” of Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU). Under this programme, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bhadradri Kothagudem distributed 20 kg of paddy seed (Siddi – WGL-44) to farmer Sri Madhusudan Rao during Kharif 2005. He successfully cultivated the crop and produced 40 bags of seed, which he sold to fellow farmers for seed purposes. During the Rabi season, farmers in the same village cultivated this variety in about 250 acres and achieved an impressive yield of 42–46 quintals per acre. Scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra interacted with the farmer and documented this success story in coordination with the Electronic Wing of PJTAU, Hyderabad.
Kothagudem: Bhadradri Kothagudem district has claimed the second spot in the State in planting and geo-tagging of saplings under Telangana Ku Haritha Haram programme-2020.The district, given a target of 118.14 lakh saplings, both planting and distribution, surpassed the target. As many as 140.65 lakh saplings were planted and distributed as per district-wise progress report.
